With the ceremony of inauguration of this evening the FIS Rollerski World Championships 2002 start. More then 200 athletes are ready to challenge for the titles of the "rollerski".
By now let's start. Since months the committee organizer of the FIS Rollerski World Championships 2002 is working to prepare the demonstration and now Sandro Theodule, president of the Comunità Montana Monte Cervino to which ago head the whole organization, seems satisfied of the job until here developed. "Everything is ready" he has declared "and to this point our look is turned only to the sky". In fact the meteos conditions are the only unknown for these championships, that have reached the second edition, and that will turn for a week the valley of the Cervino into the capital of the FIS, here represented by the Swede Bengt Erik Bengtsson, general manager of the World Cup of northern ski.
This evening the ceremony of inauguration is previewed, with the parade of the 17 affiliate teams (today the team of Ukraine has added) along the streets of the Commune of Saint Vincent. It will follow the lighting of the brazier by three skyrunners Bruno Brunod, Jean and Gloriana Pellissier. Testimonial of the ceremony is Marco Albarello, competitive manager of the National northern ski teams .
And if among few times the brazier to Saint Vincent will be lighted, from tomorrow is given fire to the agoniste dusts by the first of the five scheduled competitions. In fact at Col di Joux is set the finishing line of the "teamrace", a competition with chronometre departure every minute and the final time taken at the moment of the passage of the third component of the team, that is composed by a maximum of four athletes. The Italian team is the favorite among the senior men and they will have to defend the title conquered two years ago in Rotterdam, during the debut edition of the world FIS of rollerski. The team of 2000 is composed by Stefano Cordoni, Mirco Collavo, Andrea Stella and Alfio Di Gregorio, but just the fist two will be in competition beside Omar Peruzzo and Pietro Filippin, while Andrea Stella is ready as reserve. Alfio Di Gregorio, together with the D.T. Pierluigi Papa, has preferred not to enroll himself not to jeopardize his conditions on a binding run with almost 1000 meters gradient, and accordingly jeopardizing the objective of a gold medal in the tests of Thursday and Saturday. Tomorrow Alberto Pertile will be absent for the same reasons of the teammate in the Forest Body of the State. He aims to a medal in the sprint competition this Friday in Chatillon.
Among the women Viviana Druidi, Kezia D’Incal, Erika Bettineschi and Barbara Sartor will have to defend themselves from the strong German and Russian teams, and to be careful to the attacks of France, that lines up the country skier of World Cup Karine Philippot. Norway is absent , holder of the gold medal conquered in Holland in 2000.
The map of competition for the man race foresees the departure from the Thermal baths of Saint Vincent and the arrival after 14,5 km at the Col di Joux, while for the female senior and junior, and man junior competition the departure is moved to Salirod on a map of 8 km.
